WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
MATAKOHE. A meeting was held in the Matakohe Hall on Tuesday afternoon with a view to forming a branch of the Women's Institute. Mrs. Invin, organiser of intsitut&s, In a short address, explained the aims and ideas of women's institutes. The meeting decided to form a branch and the various officers were elected, Mrs. J. Deeming being president anil Mrs. C. J. Cox secretary. KOPUARAHI. A meeting of the Kopuarahi Women's Institute was held recently, when Mrs. Geo. Newsham presided. The roll call took the form of a book exchange and proved very popular. The delegate's report of the bi-annual conference was read. An excellent demonstration of stencilling was given by Mrs. J. Flynn, and aroused much interest. A. competition arranged by Mrs. Wilkins provided much amusement, the prize given by Mrs. Wilkins being won by Mrs. L. Mouldey. During the month the institute held a card party.to raise fuuds for the earthquake relier. This function was largely attended and the substantial sum raised has been sent direct for the relief of necessitous cases. Afternoon tea was served by, the hostesses, Mesdames Baigent, Fargher, Flynn and Campbell.
