CAPONE " GONE SOUR."

" A 1 Capone is a Mussolini gone sour. He has made £5,000,000 net in three years, and he goes around with the most complete bodyguard in history. He's a miracle of longevity in this particular business. What's more, Capone would like to. get out of the racketeering game, but he can't. He has 6000 National, State, and Municipal officials on his Chicago monthly pay-roll. Any hint that he was going to quit would result in his death, and his slayers would be among the men he now pays." These amazing statements were made in a public speech at Boston by Mr. Albert R Brunker, chairman of Chicago's CivicSafety Committee, and a dominant figure in American industry.' Since Mr. Brunker took the lead in the campaign to break up the gangs he has been guarded day and night by two detectives, and more than once his life has been attempted, Mr. Brunker, ill the course of the same speech, said: "Chicago is a city peopled chiefly by boobs. They won't give a public official an increase of £100 in salary, but they don't care a curse about his stealing £200,000 of their money so long as they don't get to hear about it officially." He charged the entire municipality of Chicago with corruption, and said that " Big Bill " Thompson was " a moron and an imbecile with a genius for gathering gangsters about him.".
