OBITUARY.

MRS. ISABELLA LOGAN. A link with early New Zealand history has been severed by the death at Papa-toet-oe of Mrs. Isabella Logan, who was approaching her ninetieth year. She was born in 1843 at Freeman's Bay. Her parents, the late Mr. David and Mrs. Young, had arrived the previous year in the immigrant ship Duchess of Argyll, and Mrs. Logan was one of the first white children born in Auckland. Her father was a member of the Colonial Militia, and during the alarms of tha Maori War the family took their place in the Albert Park barracks. In 1862 Miss Young was married to Mr. Rohert Millar, a blacksmith, of Freeman's Bay, and their family of ten sona and three daughters are widely scattered over the Auckland Province. After Mr. Millar's death she married Mr. J. Maxwell, of Te Mata, near Raglan, moving to that settlement in its early days, when a boat from Onehunga every three months was the only contact wita the outside world. At Te Mata Mrs. Maxwell practised as a nurse, and for 30 years served the district without help under conditions of great difficulty and hardship. Mr. Maxwell died, and in 1899 she married Mr. James Logan, also of Te Mata. Mrs. Logan was the mother of /13 children, nine of whom survive. There are 56 grandchildren and 43 greatgrandchildren. Possessed of great vitality and good health, Mrs. Logan came of stock noted for longevity. Her mother reached the age of 93, after an active life in Auckland, where the family had extensive interests, owning at one time almost the whole of Freeman's Bay. ' | MR. MICHAEL V. KENEALY. An old resident of the Bay of Plenty district has died, Mr. Michael Vincent Kenealy, who was born in County Cork, in 1862, and for a number of years was farming with his father. On the death, of his parents, Mr. Kenealy came to New; Zealand in May, 1882, in the ship Hermione, and engaged in commercial lite. After residing in Tauranga a number of years, he settled at Te Puke and again took up fanning. He married Miss Philomena Darby, daughter of tha late Mr. Patrick Darby, of Auckland His wife predeceased him, leaving a sou and four daughters, Mrs. Shanahan (Matamata), Mrs. R. W. Steeveri* (Pongakawa), Misses Rita and Norah Kenealy, and Mr. Patrick Kenealy (Te Puke)." MR. N. W. TAYLOR. A former farmer near Wanganui, Mr. Northing Waddilove Taylor, died on April 17, at his home in Adam Street, Green Lane, aged 85 years. Born at Otterburne, Yorkshire, Mr. Taylor wa3 married at the Tapcliffe Church. In 18S8 Mr. and Mrs. Taylor went to Australia* came to New Zealand ten years later, and lived near Wanganui for many years. Mrs. Taylor died about three months ago, MR. W. H. DERRY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Advice has been received by cablegram of the death in Perth, West Australia, of Mr. W. H. Derry, manager of the West Australian branch of tha A.M.P. Society. Mr. Derry was bora in LytteltOn in 1863, and spent his whole business career in the service of the society. He was district manager in Auckland for 12 years up to 1917, when he was promoted manager of tha Perth branch. Mr. Derry married Miss E. A. Dyer, daughter of first resident secretary of the society in New Zealand. He leaves a widow and one son. MRS. ISABELLA MACKERETH. CAMBRIDGE. Wednesday. The death occurred on April 20 at her residence, Roto-o-rangi, of Mrs. Isabella Mackereth, wife of Mr. Henry William Mackereth, after a long illness. She was born in Lancashire, and came out to New Zealand with her husband in 1907. She was a • woman of sterling character, and was held in the highest respect throughout the Waikato. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, and a step-daughter. C
