Tie election of school committees in the Auckland Education Board's district will take place on Monday evening next. Additional nominations are as follow:—

Lethbridge, G. Phipps and Walker. BIKKDALE. Ac Birkdale the average attendance has shown a slight increase, and now stands at 107. Some 40 pupils who would ordinarily comprise Standards V. and VI. are now transferred each year to the Junior High School at Northcote. During the year the Interior of the school was repainted and unemployed labour carried out various improvements to the school grounds. BRIXTON ROAD. The annual report of the Brixton Road School Committee states that the inspectors have again reported in vpry favourable terms, and that the school is soundly managed. The roll number at the end of the year was 553. Plans for an open-air school have been prepared by the board's architect and frequent representations have been made to have this permanent extension of the buildings proceeded with. The committee have taken full advantage of the No. 5 scheme to have th<» lower area and drained and to form a fullsized football field. Up to the close of the scheme the committee have disbursed £ 1070 in wages. The children in the primary department, to the number of 14". are now receiving dental service at the Sandringham district clinic. A substantial credit balance is again shown in the various accounts.

MAUNGAWHAU. An increase in the roll number from 70S to 7o*> is recorded in the annual report of the Maungawhau School Committee. The average attendance in 1030 was tii'J and would have been higher had it not been for an epidemic u£ chicken pox. Good attendance certificates were awarded to 17' i pupiis. Of the 45 scholars presented for the proficiency examination, 44 gained the higher certificate and one the lower. Two scholarships and three junior free places were also gained. The , inspectors' report was excellent. The committee took advantage of the So. j unemployment scheme to carry out considerable improvements to the grounds. Householders contributed £!)3 and £42 was raised at the school concert. A dental clinic is now being erected. The contract price for the building is £250 and the committee have to find one-third of this amount. The sanitary problem, which engaged the attention of committees for many years, was solved and the school is now connected with the main drainage scheme. The erection of an assembly hall was being kept in mind. In the cricket ana football competitions the school made a satisfactory showing, and in swimming the pupils gained the Nicholson Shield for the first time. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £6 11/. MEADOWBANK. Another year of effort on behalf of the schctol is recorded in the Meadowbank School Committee's report. Owing to the financial stringency the committee did not, as in past years, initiate schemes necessitating financial assistance from the district. However, much useful work had been done, partly from current revenue and partly from funds in hand. The committee made use of the No. 5 scheme to begin ground improvements on a much larger scale than could otherwise have been undertaken, about £28 being paid in wages weekly. The roll number was well maintained and stood at 438. as compared with 413 last year. Attendance was good and there was little sickness. The standard of work was" well maintained and the inspectors' reports were favourable. At the annual examinations 35 scholars gained proficiency certificates and four competency certificates, while two failed. One pupil gained a junior national scholarship, while anotner passed and was awarded a junior free place. In sport the pupils were were catered for and in the primary schools tennis championship the girls of the school gained an outstanding success. The financial position during the year was satisfactory ;i nd the books showed a credit balance of £47.

ELLERSLIE. At the meeting of the Ellerslie School Committee tribute will be paid to the memory of the late chairman, Mr. J. Crosher. who died early in his term of office after lons and v;iiuable service to the school. Excellent progress has been made in all departments and the dental clinic is now firmly established in the confidence of the parents. The committee rook fall advantage- of the No. 3 unemployment relief scheme to carry nut considerable improvements to the school grounds, the main path being regraded. concrete channels laid down, lawns relaid. paths and playing areas tarred and sanded and a large reef of rock levelled to provide further playing ground.
