OPTIMISTIC ANNUAJ. REPORT. REDUCED WORKING PROFIT. The twenty-first annual report of the Auckland Rugby League, to be presented at the annual meeting to be held at the Chamber of' Commerce on Thursday evening, refers to the very satisfactory state of affairs of the code in this district in spite of the generally depressing conditions which had prevailed. The balance-sheet showed surplus credit funds of £9711 5/9, the main asset, Carlaw Park, having been maintained at a high state of efficiency. The total, assets were £10,534 19/4, as compared with a modest £40 cash in hand and the sum of £70 owing at the end of the first year, at Carlaw Park. The detailed statement of receipts and expenditure this year revealed that in consequence of a reduction in the aggregate gate receipts the profit on the year's working was reduced to £473 13/5, compared with £1742 in the previous year. The gate receipts were £2282 12/, as compared with £3465 10/5 in 1929. Other receipts were in keeping with the previous years, except that there was a slight falling-off in vice-president subscriptions which were £304 10/, as against £424 11/6. The total receipts (including ground rents and sundries, £247 11/5, advertising rights £216 14/) were £3100 3/11. On the other hand, the total expenditure was within a few pounds of the previous year; the principal items being advertising of matches £241 9/7, ground rents to local bodies £542 8/ and ground staffs £287 17/6. Improvements and maintenance of Carlaw Park cost £512 2/5, and City Council rates £87 4/11. Office expenses were £262 14/2, and the entertaining of visitors and teams cost £93 10/6. The management was liberal to its players, particularly to the schoolboys. Under insurance accident heading the sum of £224 6/ had been paid out. Donations to charity, and grants to visiting teams and affiliated clubs were £257 0/8, trophies £86 1/6, visiting teams £265 15/8, Referees' Association £71 1/6. Honorariums amounted to £209 2/. The junior management had reported its most successful season. The number of juniors registered was 1930, compared with 984 the previous year, and 63 teams took the field. , The Referees' Association was in a flourishing condition and in readiness for the coming" season. A tribute was also paid the primary schools' management committee, which anticipated a considerable increase in competition entries this year. "There are indications of another prosperous year," concludes the report, "and already most of the clubs have their affairs well advanced for an early commencement."
