PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

The Papakura Town Board met last evening, Mr. H. L. Thornton, presiding.

Butterworth Avenue.—The iboard was asked by a ratepayer to coneider the openr ing of the road known ae Butterworth Avenue as the moving of the necessary earth could be done by relief men. The matter was referred to the works com* mittee.

Football Grounds.—The secretary a: the Manukau Rugby Union applied for theuse of the reserve at Papakura. An application, accompanied by the fee usually charged, was also received from the Papakura Rugby League Club. The board decided to grant the League olub the ue« of the ground on the condition that the Manukau Union be granted the use of same for representative fixtures, whsn the Rugby League would be granted the use of Prince Edward Park. The board fixed the rental at £1 for eacii code. Papakura has no Rugby club, having resigned from the Manukau Union and joined the Auckland Rugby League Union.

Water Meters.—A petition protesting against the prosposal to instal water meters in the town district was presented by a ratepayer. Signatures of 125 ratepayers were on the petition, stating that the time was not opportune for the undertaking of work which involved such a large capital expenditure. The meter system would load to a direct loss in revenue, as persons would revert to tanks. The chair, man eaid he thought the people who had signed the petition had not fully understood the meter system. Members ag.eed with the chairman and it was decided to issue a circular to ratepayers explaining the meter sy6tem.
