LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The acting-Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presided at a meeting of the New Lynn Borpugh Council last evening. Other members present were: Messrs. W. Platt, H. Dove, S. Shanley, S. James and Marshall Laing.

Glen Lynn Football Club.—A letter was received from the Glen Lynn Rugby League Football Club asking the council to assist them in acquiring a playing area. A majority of the members were New Lynn boys. It was resolved to supply the club with details relative to an area existing for League football on the Great North Road, New Lynn.

Titirangi Road.—A letter was received from the Minister of Finance sanctioning the borrowing of money at the rate of 6 per cent for the concreting of Titirangi Road. The Minister had previously declined to sanction interest payment at G per cent.

Hutchinson Avenue.—A report was submitted by the works foreman relative to widening Hutchinson Avenue in the vicinity of the culvert, raising the road level, and building retaining walls over the culvert to meet the new elevation. The works will be put in hand at an early date.

Water Consumption.—The turncock tabled a report concerning the consumption of water in the borough. Comparative figures covering consumption for what might be termed peak load periods were: December, 1930, 4,380,000 gallons; January, 1931, 2,940,000; February, 1931, 2,640,000. The consumption of water for last three years as from September to February was: 1928-9, 24,180,000 gallons; 1929-30, 18,960,000; 1930-1, 17,560,000.

Lynwood Road Culvert.—The clerk reported the Waitemata County Council's acceptance of half the financial responsibility in extending this culvert. When completed this will permit the widening of the carriage way.

Agricultural High School.—The Auckland Provincial -Agricultural Education Committee intimated that the Director of Education would inspect the proposed Agricultural High School site between New Lynn and Glen Eden next Wednesday. The council accepted an invitation to be present, and desires all residents interested to attend.

Cycles on Footpaths.—A letter from E. A. Millett complained of »he practice of boys riding bicycles on the footpaths. The clerk reported that nine prosecutions were pending.

Auckland Museum.—A letter was received from the secretary of the above notifying that £78 3/ was the levy on the borough for the current year—a reduction of £15 on last vear's contribution.

Sanitation.-—The sanitary inspector reported that four new connections had been made to the borough sewer. / No cases of infectious diseases had been reported. He recommended that a clean-up week be arranged.

Dangerous Goods. —The inspector's report disclosed a number of premises which had failed to renew their licenses on due date. In one instance 2%cwt of explosives were destroyed.
