YACHTING.

■ I AKARANA AND VICTORIA CLUBS. COMBINED CRUISING AND HARBOUR RACES. The yacht racing season is drawing to a close, but one of the best days for sailing was experienced on Saturday, when the Akarana and Victoria Clubs held a series. of combined races in a steady northerly breeze, which did not vary all day. The keel, 26, 22, and 20-footers and motor boats in both clubs raced to Matiatia, Waiheke, a distance of 11J miles. The smaller classes competed together over a harbour course, starting and finishing off the King's wharf. The direction of the wind allowed the boats in the cruising races to lay their course down harbour and through the Motutapu passage, with their sheets just a bit eased, although they had to come hard aboard to fetcli the finishing line with the strong flood tide setting them to leeward. Very good time was made to the bay, the leaders doing the distance in a little over two hours. The course for the harbour races was round Sandspit, round Resolution to mark off the starting line, twice round, a distance of eight miles. The, M class sailed a course of their own choice, going round Bastion, white light, and then straight in. This gave more windward work than the Sandspit course. . . , i Manene came home ahead of the other five boats in this class, although Maroro kept her going hard, being only 48 seconds behind, with 3i m incites between her and the next boat. Manene scored a win' in Akarana and also the Royals, which held a race in conjunction with the Akarana Club. Waiono was first boat to finish in the keel class, with Wairiki second and Windward third. Omatere led the way in on'the 26-foot class, with Spray second and Starlight third. Marie got the gun easily in the L and N class, with Wairere second and Doreen third. Kenya was first home of the motor boats. , Avro and Wild Wave had a great duel in the V and S class, the former getting the gun by 61 seconds, with Sceptre third. _ Lois had an easy win in the 1, X, and Y class, with Fay second m, and Sybila third. Lois wins the 14-foot championship cup of the Akarana Club. Three midgets, the 7-footers, had a good race in the steady breeze, Weona winning, with Wyshwynhe second.
