BAY OF PLENTY RACES.

LUCKY ALICE TAKES CUP.

OPEN SPRINT TO ROYAL RULER. HIT THE DECK' PAYS TWO DIVIDENDS. The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club's annual meeting was held at Taurauga to-day in beautiful weather, and there was a large attendance. The Cup was 1 won by Lucky Alice, the favourite, r Clopton, filling third place. Hit the r Deck recorded his first win in the Alf 5 Brown Memorial and later ran second I in the Hemes Memorial. Royal Ruler won the Flying Handicap from Tradesman, who made all the running, but failed over tho last 50 yards. During . the day tho sum of £11,046 was put I through tho totalisator, compared with ' l £18,077 last year, a decrease of £7031. i Ti Tree Beaten. * Valsier, Black Maire, Tradesman, Berl nera, Currajong and Palmares dropped I out of the Greerton Handicap. Ti Tree (£441), Sir Russell (£300) and Cynthia N. ( £200) carried the bulk of ' the money, and the public were nearly » right in their summing up. Sir Russell began best and led along the back from Branson, Ti Tree and King Willonyx, • but crossing the top Ti Tree and Sir Russell wcro on terms, the pair being followed by King Willonyx, Unoco, Branson and Cynthia N. There was no change as the field turned for home, where Sir Russell drew out and won by a length from Ti Tree, who beat King Willonyx by one and a half lengths. Cynthia N. was fourth, with Unoco and Branson next. Easy Win for Crimestor. When the field went to the post for the President's Handicap, Valreina, Rangikaha, Hollyholm, Wee Prince and Production were the absentees, and Crimestor ( £240), Ruling Chief ( £237) and Welcome Boy ( £228) got most support. The favourite began best and led Currajong, Laptown, Welcome Boy and Rekeraurau as they raced along the back, and there was no change in the positions crossing the top stretch. Turning for home the favourite was attendedby Currajong and Welcome Boy, then came Rekeraurau, Laptown and Lord Willonyx, and he went on to win by a length from Laptown, with Welcome Boy one and a half lengths away. Ruling Chief, Currajong, Justify and Lord Willonyx were next. County Stakes. Eight candidates went to the post_ in the County Stakes, the defections being Distress, Hautangi, Lady Valette, and Momonatui. The public elected Kiritahangi, who carried £262, favourite, while Winter Boy (£240) and Lapaway (£201) also had friends. Dainty Manners, .Welcome Boy, Kiritahanga, and Miss Lap were the first to show up, and they crossed the top in that order. Dainty Manners turned for home first, just ahead of Welcome Boy; then came Miss Lap and Lapaway together. The leader tired in the run to the post, and Miss Lap got up to beat her by threequarters of a length, with Kiritahanga a neck away. Laptown, Creina's King, Welcome Boy, and Hester Bourne were next. Royal Ruler Wins Sprint. When the machine closed for the Flying Handicap, Royal Ruler was favourite carrying £361, next in demand being Tradesman (£227) and Sir Russell (£224). The public were correct in their summing up. Billikins began quickest and showed the way early, but Tradesman soon headed him off with Royal Ruler and Town Bird next. Tradesman looked to have the race in safe keeping, but tired over the last 50 yards and Royal Ruler beat him by three-quarters of a length, with Sir Russell and Llanore, who dead-heated for third money a length away.
