MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

MR. BLOODWORTH TO STAND. independent candidate, DISPUTE FOR SELECTION. Mr. Tom Bloodworth has decided to stand for re-election as a city councillor at tlie coming municipal elections, as an independent candidate. He has taken this action as a result of a difference of opinion with Auckland Labour Representation Committee. Mr. Bloodworth has been a Labour representative on the City Council and the Harbour Board for the last 12 years. Commenting on the fact that his name was' omitted from list of official Labour candidates published yesterday, Mr. Bloodworth said he had declined to submit his name to the selection ballot for the three bodies in which he was interested. These bodies were the City Council, the Harbour Board and the Transport Board. He had been given the usual nomination form to sign, and after striking out certain words, he had returned it with a letter stating that although he was willing to become one of the party's candidates, he was not willing to submit to the result of a selection ballot. As he intended to become a candidate in any case, he considered it was unfair to do what the Labour Representation Committee asked of him.

Mr. Bloodworth said that he had also been approached to stand for the Mayoralty as a Labour candidate, but he had declined.

TAKAFUNA COUNCIL.

THREE MAYORAL CANDIDATES. Present indications are that several members of the Takapuna Borough Council will not seek re-election at the biennial polls in May. The Mayor, Mr. Julius Williamson, has intimated that he will retire from public life at the expiration of his present term of office. He has served • almost continuously for the past ten years, and has been Mayor since 1927. Members of the council who have definitely resolved not to offer their services again are Messrs. Bryce Hart and J. F. Colegrove, while Messrs. J. Collins, L. H. Titchener and J. Powell are not yet in a position to announce their intentions. Three members of the council are definitely announced as candidates for the Mayoralty, these being Messrs. J. A. Algie, J. Guiniven and A. H. Wilkie. Mr. Algie 5s the present deputy-Mayor of the borough, and Messrs. Guiniven and Wilkie contested the seat at the last elections. , The Milford Ratepayers and Residents' Association has selected four nominees to represent that portion of the borough upon the council, these being Messrs. G. P. Gibson, A. Large, P. W. Retter and the Rev. J., Hiddlestone. Mr. Gibson is a member of the present council. The association has also decided to tender its support to. the candidature of Mr. J. A. AJgie for the Mayoralty. V" ■ .i •_ > Waitemata Power Board. Takapuna borough has two. representatives upon the Waitemata Electric Power Board, Messrs. M. E. Thompson and J. A. Algie. Both will seek . reelection, and in addition Messrs. Guiniven and Wilkie are in the field.-
