RELIEF SOUGHT.
MOUNT WELLINGTON EOAD BOARDS, The Mount Wellington Road Board decided at its meeting on Tuesday to apply to the Government for a commission to deal with the board's claim for relief from liability to maintain a portion of the Great South Road. This action was decided on following the receipt of a letter from the Main Highways Board pointing out that after considering the representations which had been made, it had decided that it could not declare any part of the road a main highway, and that the claim for relief was a matter for a commission fc> inquire into. The One Tree Hill borough, it was pointed out, was fortunate in obtaining a subsidy from the board towards the cost of construction of the road while it was still a road district. Now it was receiving yearly payments which, not only covered the maintenance cost, but also would go a long way towards paying the borough's interest and sinking fund charges on the loan to provide its share of the construction cost.
