PROVIDING WORK.
POWER BOARDS CO-OPERATES GENERAL CLEAN-UP ORDERED. The Waitemata Power Board this morning decided to participate in the No. 5 unemployment relief scheme by cleaning up the whole of the board's properties. - ■ All members expressed the opinion that the board should do everything possible to find work for unemployed. ■ The chairman, Mr. G. Trevithiek, said that the scheme did not allow any work to be done which was provided for in this, or next year's or which had been left off the estimates in anticipation of providing sustenance for unemployed. If any work was decided upon the board would have to find tools and materials. He thought borough councils were in a better position to find useful work to absorb men. Mr. W. P,. Rankin drew attention to the hoard's property at Devon port and said that. men could be employed to clean it up. Mr. 0. Marks suggested that an inspection of the whole of the board's properties should be made and men employed to clean them. It was decided that the engineer make the inspection of the Devonport property, he being empowered to employ men if necessary.
