THEFT OF YACHT.

LABOURER BEFORE COURT, MAN WITH "HEALTHY" LIST. "Although young in years this man has a rather healthy list of previous convictions," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly in the Police Court this morning, in introducing Frank Thompson, alias Langmaid, a labourer (34), who was charged with stealing a yacht valued at £8, the property of Frederick Louis Trezaso. Accused entered a plea of guilty, Detective-Sergeant Kelly explained that 011 Christmas Day last the accused got a loan of the boat from complainant in order that he might earn some money at fishing. Yesterday he disposed of the craft for £S 10/. The complainant was willing to sell the boat for £8, and had told the accused that he could have it for that amount. When he was being taken to the police station, the accused told quite a lot of lies about the vessel. Among other things lie had said that he had bought it, having paid a deposit of £.1, Ultimately, however, he admitted that ho had secured the yacht on loan and had sold it. While admitting the accused had a formidable list, Mr. Aekins said that Thompson seemed to be up against it pretty badly. He stated that complainant agreed to sell the yacht for £5, and he intended paying the former that amount. The boat was leaky, and that was why accused had not been able to earn sufficient to pay for it. He was now prepared to take the boat back if given time in which to find the money to pay on it. ? Trezasc said lie was prepared to give accused the chance he desired. Detective-Sergeant Kelly: If he sells the boat again before you get paid, don't come back to the police. Mr, W. H. Woodward, S.M., decided to convict accused. He ordered that Ihomp? soil was to come up for sentence in six months time, and in the meantime was to pay for it.
