PERSONAL.
Major and Mrs. Douglas, of. London, are staying at the Star Hotel. The Rev. Jasper Calder left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., left by train last evening for Wellington. Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Pilkington, of Wellington, returned to Wellington last evening after a holiday in Auckland. , Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police, has returned to Wellington from the Hawke's Bay district. He will leave for Napier in a day or two. Mr. R. A. Laidlaw left last evening for Wellington, where he will join the Marama on an extensive tour abroad. He is accompanied by Mrs. Laidlaw. The Rev. A. Whitelaw, of Auckland, has been appointed minister, at the Presbyterian Church at Te Awa.mutu. His induction will take place on February 19. The Rev. G. Frost, of St. John's Methodist Church, Ponsonby, left for the South. last evening to attend the Methodist conference, which will open in Dunedin next week. Major-General and Mrs. H. J. Browne, of London, who are on a holiday visit to New Zealand, are staying at the Hotel Stonehurst. Major-General Browne was attached to the Indian Army for many years.
