BUILDING TO STOP.
SCHOOL AT NEW PLYMOUTH. USE OF BRICKS DISCUSSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. "That the Taranaki Education Board and the Government be urged immediately to suspend building operations at the Central School until the wisdom of erecting buildings of this nature in brick has been thoroughly investigated," was a resolution carried at a public meeting this evening. The Hon. S. G. Smith, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, said he would take the responsibility of saying that building would stop until investigations had been made. Experts had been to Napier seeking information to ensure that as far as possible nobody would be allowed to erect a building in which the public were invited to do business unless it was proved that it would not be a death trap if another earthquake occurred. He had been assured that the chief engineer of the Public Works Department would make available all possible information with regard to brick buildings.
