BOWLING.

RINKS TITLE.

POST SECTION PLAY.

GAMES ON FAST GREENS.

MATCHES SPLENDIDLY

•The post : scction play in the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association's rink championship commenced this morning on the Carlton green, the twenty-eight rinks which had qualified during the previous three days competing. Weather conditions were perfect and the- green was very fast. These' conditions- facilitated 'excellent play. Many..of- the matches resulted in very close finishes, as the detailed results will show, several being decided' only when the last bowl was played.

Progress was also made in the pairs championship, -live-matches to find green winners being played. Both competitions are being conducted this after noon. It wiH probably be Thursday evening before the rink championship is decided. . .

. Various competitors who are engaged in more than one competition will resume play in the pairs and singles as soon as they are released from the rinks.

Notes on the Games. Billing's J\ew Plymouth team made 12 points before Carlton (Truscott) started, and the visitors retained a good lead throughout, although the Carlton :uen were playing good bowls. In several heads the locals were lying four or iive when Billing robbed them of the score. The Wanganui team skipped by Gordon appeared to be hopelessly out of it; being 11 down with three heads to go; However, they scored 7,. 1, 4, to beat Epsom (Richmond) by one point. The seven points were all drawn. Wanganui lay five down when the skips went to draw, and Gordon drew two more. The Grey Lynn team, skipped by Buckley, led Kirkwood (St. John's) all the way. After an even start between Mount Eden (Fraser) and Rotorua (Gribble) Mount Eden established a slight lead, which thev held throughout.

Another Carlton team, Kilgour'e, scored nine before St. John's (Lancaster) pot going and held the lead comfortably. In the match between Munro (Pukckolie) and Bcn«on (Dominion l?oad) the latter still had a chance on the List head, although he started two points down. Dominion Road were lying threi' shots when Smart promoted a ehort bowl and put it right on the jack, where it stayed although four attempts wera made to remove it. Walker (Auckland) had a very interesting game against Ardell (Hataitai), although the local team led most of the way. Ardell evened the score on the twelfth head when he piwhed out the shot ball for five. Otherwise Walker wa> usually leading. The game between Steele (Auckland) and Brighting (Hataitai) started 14all on the last head, and this -.was changed three times before Steele .got the winning shot.' 1 * ;-,'•■, ■*;• : .y . The, small spore in the pairs match between Eagleton, (JRocky Nook) and Frost (I>ankton Railway) was due to the fact that several, heads were burnt, and only sixteen heads, were played before" tlic, 'time; boll rang-

In his pairs matfth against Kerr. Franks was three'up when the last head started. Kcrr just missed a trail with his last bowl, which would have given hini five for a win; ' .' ■
