OFFER TO WELLINGTON MEN. DISAPPROVAL EXPRESSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday. About 200 unemployed waited upon Mr.: F. Castle, chairman of the Hospital Board, and Mr. ,W. J. Lowe, social welfare officer, this afternoon. In reply to the deputation's request for information regarding the Hospital Board's line of action, Mr. Lowe told the men that it had been decided that they would receive "two meals and one bed a day, which would cost the committee 21/ a week,, and, in return for that,- they would have' to do 14 hours' - work a week. • ■ This announcement did not appear to meet -with general approval, and-both; Mr. Castle and Mr. Lowe were plied with questions and were subjected to a considerable amount of heckling. They gave the men a patient and attentive hearing and advised them to make any specific complaints in regard to food and shelter in writing and present them to the board.
