KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH DISAPPOINTS.

EXPLOSION TROTS FAST.

The dirt track at Epsom this morning was particularly-fast, but the, majority of trainers were not seeking, to put up fast times, and i most of the work recorded was little more than jogging.

The only one to use the. cinders was Special Bell, who trotted about a mile and a quarter without being asked to make time. The mile took 2.40.

. Explosion, going at the trotting gait, was sent two miles by W. Clifton. The big chestnut took 1.20 for the first half mile, and then warmed up to his task. He came home ;the last mile.and a half in 3:22, which was a great workout, seeing that-he was trotting and not pacing.

Dad's Hope was sent two miles. Ho went the first mile and a half in 3.38, and the two miles in 4.47.

Worthy Chief and Worthy Cause were companions' over a mile paced in 2.29.

Margaret Wallace was given plenty of work. She went a mile in 2.27, and, later stepped a half in 1.10 1-5.

Mignonne (McMahon) worked a mile easily in 2.22 4-5. This mare looks in great condition. -

Benefice, in harness, and Carnui, •in saddle, worked together. Benefica went an easy mile when she was joined by Carnui. The latter, ridden right out with the whip, paced the mile in 2.16. Benefice, who was going. very easily throughout, put in a tangle in the last furlong, and this allowed. Carnui to finish in front.

Kewpie's Triumph had the trottei Anseline for a- companion in; a workout over two miles. Anseline trotted steadily throughout, but Kewpie's Triumph vae disappointing, and threatened; to go to break several times on the turns.
