ISLAND PICNICS.
Although extra launches were chartered, several hundred people had to be turned away from the annual picnic of the Amalgamated Engineers' Union, which was held at Motuihi yesterday. There were over LSOO people at the gathering. The usual programme of surfing, sunbathing and rambling over the island was interspersed with organised games and sports. The engineers of the Post and Telegraph Department held their annual picnic at Pine Island on Saturday. There was a large attendance. Sports events were much enjoyed.
