MOTOR SERVICES.

NEW LEGISLATION.

DRASTIC RESTRICTIONS.

FORECAST OF IMPORTANT

PROPOSALS.

LESS COMPETITION ON ROADS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, this day,

The "Star's" Waikato representative understands that legislation of a farreaching nature is proposed as the outcome of representations to the Government by county councils, the Railway Department and motor service interests. Summarised, this legislation will provide for fairly drastic restrictions on motor services throughout the Dominion. It is not intended to legislate preagainst the motor-travelling public, whose interests will be conserved by the licensing of established pioneer transport services, to which preference will be given in all cases. Full details are not yet available, but it is understood that only two road services will be permitted to operate between Auckland and Hamilton. It is further understood that the legislation ii already framed, and only awaits sanction.
