HORSES FOR TRENTHAM.

WORK AT AWAPUNI

MERRY DAMON GOES WELL,

The weather was ideal at Awapuni on Saturday morning, and there was a fair amount of fast work. The course proper, with the flags well out, was available, and the going was soft after Friday's heavy rain. A number, of horses with engagements at Wellington were in action, and all performed their tasks in a pleasing manner. Mister Gam]) (T. Green), Democratic (R. Mellcs) and Atareria (A. G. Murray) were associated in a seven-furlong (hitter, Mister Gump finishing best, the distance being covered in 1.39 2-5. Merry Damon (W. Broughton) was timed to run a mile in 1.52. He was accompanied by Callamart over the first part of the journey and was then picked up by Pythia. The Cup candidate moved attractively throughout. Trojan Melody, nlonc, got to the end of six/furlongs in 1.26. Trojan Melody figures among the acceptors for the Rui'pchu Hack Handicap at Wellington, and should go well. King Colossus was sent along at a steady pace over five furlongs.

La Poupco (l>. liecd) .and Chief Cook (T. Green) were together at the end of Jive furlongs, run in 1.7. La Poupco is in good fcttlti for the, Wellington Stakes. Chief Cook will be ridden by T. Green in the Fitzlierbert Handicap. Teller (T. Green), La Parleusc (W. Shand) and White Squall (A. C. Dick) were associated in a half-mile flutter, •Teller and La Parlcuse doing best. They were timed to run the distance in 54 2-06. Teller and White Squall are entered*for the Fitzherbcrt Handicap, Blue Paper (W. Bell) .had plenty of weight to carry, but moved nicely to run live furlongs in 1.7. Valueless (R. Viiiccnt), Valorous Knight (R. Keed), Dobbin (J. Pagan) and Patearoa. (A. G. Dick) were sent along over five furlongs. Dobbin and Valueless finished together in front, Valorous Knight being next. They covered the distance in 1.7. King Hal and Eule Britannia were together at the end' of live furlongs run in I.D. Arvada, alone, went live furlongs in useful time, and was going well at the finish. She did not get a good spin, at Foxton, but should be -worth wafcehinw in forthcoming engagements.
