The members met on Wednesday to farewell the president, Miss McCall, who is leaving for Hawera and Stratford. Mrs. Smytheman, vice-president, handed her a pretty scent spray as a remembrance of her faithful two years' pioneering. : •. ■ MATAMATA. A pleasant afternoon was spent by the Women's Institute on Tuesday. Recitations given by Miss Johnstonc, and community singing and a competition arranged by . Miss Stevens, were enjoyed by all. . The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Barry, Cotterill and Helmsley. GREENHITHE. , The January meeting of the above institute took the form of a combined picnic held at Tauhuiu Park, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin. Quite a large number of members and friends from the- Albany and Birkdale Institutes accepted the invitation. Before the gathering dispersed a hearty vote of thanks from the visiting institutes was accorded the local one, and also thanks to Mrs. Irwin for her kindness in allowing the picnic to be held at Tauhiuu Park. < WAIPU.

On Tuesday afternoon a meeting was held in Waipu with a view to establishing a branch of the Women's Institute. There were 34 present, and Miss Lewis delivered an interesting address on the aims and work of the institute Miss Lewis spoke of the birth of the movement among lonely Canadian women before the war, of its sprpad to England during the . war, when women banded together to help their country, and of its rapid growth, until now there is scarcely a country'which is not represented in tho organisation There was an interesting display of articles both decorative and useful, made from scraps of material, sugar bags and-equally humble foundations, made by country women in their spare time and indicative of the ample talent and originality of the makers At the conclusion of the address a motion that a branch ba formed at Waipu was carried uhani mously, and afternoon .' tea closed .1 pleasant, and interesting gal tiering.
