ARAPUNI REPORT.
COMMENT IN" LONDON.
Professor P. G. Hornell's report dealing- with the situation at Arapiuii is described in the November issue of "Engineering," London, as "an interesting and reassuring document." The report stated that the plant could he reconditioned satisfactorily and the whole scheme completed at an economical figure. It was thus in distinct contrast with the opinion expressed 'by the Government's geological experts, who proposed buttressing the whole block of country affected by the damage. As that was something like a mile in length and from 300 ft to 500 ft broad, with a gorge in the neighbourhood of 200 ft deep on one eide, euch a scheme would involve a fliuge expenditure. After putting forward their proposals, states "Engineering," the geologists seem to have left more specific planning, in connection with the working out of their idea, to the engineerinf pro° fcesion, but Professor Horncll would appear to have found a rather more logical, and certainly a more economical, •way of dealing with the situation.
