RAINFALL IN PROVINCES.
Very welcome rain fell throughout the Auckland Province yesterday. In the Thames*-' . Valley district a very heavy downpour lasted' about an hour from lit a.m. The' rain is expected to do good. especially to the .'recently-sown turnip and maize crops. A westerly wind r,])i'ang up at Te Arolia in the early hours of the morning and periodically reached gala force. An exceptionally heavy .shower full %t 9.30 a.m. and in 4.0 minutes, half an inch of . rain . was registered. There were a few cases of temporary flooding Although the rain ceased before- mkl-day, the weather remained stormy and threatening. Exactly half au inch of rain was recorded in Whangarei from 9 a.m. until I p.m. A heavy rainstorm passed over the town from* about 10.30 a.m. to H a.m. Jn several places the water overflowed from the gutters on to the pavements.
