FAILED TO REPORT.
MAN'S BREACH OF PROBATION
Described as a hawker. Ernest Archie McDowell, aged 28, was brought before the Police Court this morning on a charge of failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation. Accused, for whom" Mr. W. Noble appeared, pleaded guilty. The probation officer said McDowell was admitted to probation at Papakirra on June 14, 1929 on a theft charge. He was ordered to make restitution and had done so. The offence was committed by his failure to report, and the changing of his address without notifying the probation officer. Counsel said accused was a married man with a family. He left home early in the mornings and did not have much time in which to report himself. However, he now realised the seriousness of his omission. "He must have had some time in which to report," said-the magistrate. "I cannot understand these men who are given a chance. He's lined £3."
