UNIVERSITY SENATE.

MEETING IN AUCKLAND.

OPENING SESSION TO-MORROW

ADDRESS BY CHANCELLOR

The New Zealand University Senate will meet in Auckland to-morrow—the first time for four years—and will continue its sessions until about next Tuesday. At the opening session, in the Auckland University College Hall to-morrow morning , , Professor J. Macmillan Brown, the Chancellor, will deliver the inaugural address. One of the first reports to be presented will include a refer- ~ ence to the death of (Sir Eobert Stout, who was chancellor • for many years and a member of the senate at the time of his death. The report of the executive committee on the work of the year will be presented by (.he vicechancellor, Professor U T; A. Hunter, of Wellington, and that on the work and recommendations of the Academic Board by Professor H. W. Segar, of Auckland. A special report wifl deal with the report of the Parliamentary Recess Committee on Education. During its sittings the senate will award University prizes and confer a number of degrees. Flower (Ghristchurch), Sir George Fowlds (Auckland). Mr. P. Lcvi (Wellington), Mr; W. J. Morrell (Dunedin), Sir Thomas Sidey (Dunedin j, Professor A. 'P.- W. Thomas (Auckland), Mr. F. de la Mare (Hamilton), Mr. C. M. Gilray (Dunedin), Sir Apirana Ngata, Dr. W. Nuwlands (Dunedin). Mr. T. U. Wells (Auckland), Professor 11. W. Segar (Auckland), Professor J. Raukinc Brown (Wellington), Professor" James Hight (Christchurch), Dr. W. P. Evans (Wellington), and Mr. T. B. Strong (Director, of Education). Mr. E. T. Norris is registrar. Sir Thomas Sidey, who is returning to Now Zealand with the Prime Minister, is not expected to arrive hi time for the senate meeting.
