TRADE WITH CANADA.

Australian Minister in British Columbia. " BUSINESSLIKE ATTITUBE." (Received 10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, January 5. The Hon. P. J. Moloney, .Australian Minister of Markets, arrived on Monday from Ottawa and was greeted by the Hon. J. W. Jones, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the British Columbia Government and representative businessmen. Mr. Moloney goes to Victoria on Tuesday to take up trade matters with the Provincial Government. The visiting Minister is not communicative regarding the details of the proposed new treaty but businessmen fully appreciate his businesslike attitude and his evident conviction that trade between Canada and Australia, can be increased. "The most I can tell of the negotiations at Ottawa is that we reached what I consider a highly satisfactory agreement," said Mr. Moloney on Monday, when he spoke at a luncheon given by the Board of Trade, the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, and the Canadian Club. . "Every viewpoint of Canadians and Australians was considered/' he continued'. "I will have to take the agreement back to Australia for ratification, and I have no doubt that the result will be the reaching of a satisfactory agreement. It is not ths intention of the Australian Government to embarrass or injure any Canadian industry, but rather to agree upon a pact that may be .to our mutual advantage. Just as in Australia we do not permit' anyone to make deprecating remarks about Canada, so we know that you in Canada protect Australia in this manner. All we desire in Australia is that the truth be told." The Minister further said that Australia, like other Governments, had been caught in the world depression. "We have no "doubt that we will pull through this in'the same way that we have come through other troubles," he concluded.
