TWO COURSE RECORDS ESTABLISHED.

The summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, was continued at Ellerslie yesterday in fine though dull weather. There was a large-attendance and the racing was most interesting throughout. In the Newmarket Handicap Lady Quex ran the six furlongs in 1.12 2-5, which is the best that has ever been done over the distance on this course, while in the Glasgow Handicap Tenakoe covered seven furlongs in 1.25, which also creates a record for the course. Kara-' poti, who won the Derby, covered the mile and a half in 2.32 3-5, which equals the race record of Desert Gold, who ran similar time when she won the Derby in 1916. Karapoti has only once been beaten in his last six starts and his two Accesses at Ellerslie during the last week stamp him as one of the best three-year-olds seen out for a long time. During the day the sum of £70,930 was put through the machine compared with £74,182 10/ for the. corresponding day last season, a decrease of '£3252 10/- -This made a total for the three days of £226,534 10/ against £267,674 10/ for the first three days of the summer fixture last year, a decrease of £41,140. The Ellerslie Handicap. Proceedings opened with the Ellerslie Handicap fori which all started. Clopton ( £1954) was favourite, with Arrowzone (£1014) and Stonehengc (£697) next best backed. ! Trustee got away badly and Loving Cup led out from Arrowzone, Clopton, Stonehenge and Smithfield. Along the back the. order was Loving Cup, Arrowzone, Clopton, Smithfield, Stonehenge, Brampton, Alloy, Bizarro and Trustee. Crossing the top Loving Cup and Arrowzone- were together'in front followed by 'Smithfield, Stonehenge, Alloy and Brampton. Loving Cup showed the way into the straight to Arrowzone, Stonehenge and Clopton, and stalling off Stonehenge, Won by half a length,,with Brampton a neck away. Then "came Arrowzone, Bizarro, Clopton, Smithfield, Alloy, Eirst Lap and King Swift. > Royal Baby Wins. Limeen was the only scratching for the '.Midsummer Handicap and the public went for Aspian (£1525), the bracket Chief Jewel- and Columba ( £1351) and Royal Baby ( £873), while Princess Bede carried only £300. Columba, Chief Jewel, Drama and Royal Baby Were the quickest to begin and crossing the top Royal Baby had charge from Columba, Oratorian, Chief Jewel, Princess : Bede,. High Comedy, Lady Vane and Aspian. Royal Baby led into the straight from Oratorian High Comedy, Princess.- Bede and Chief Jewel and went on to win by a length and a half from Princess Bede, who beat Ghicl Jewel bv half a length. Then came Oratorian, Chief Cook, Aspian, High Comedy, Speedmint, Amber Link, .Lady Vane and Columba. Drama was pulled up in the straight and it was found that she had rat a ligament of her near foreleg and she is • not - likely to race again. Mister Gamp's Success. Claremore, Absent and Wako King were the defections from tln> New Year's Hurdle Race, leaving a fte.d ol ten. Luminary ( £1162), Mister Gamp ( £981) and .'Mangani (£713) weie most in demand' Kairuri lost Ins rider at the first fence and Luminary was soon in charge and showed the way past the stands to Respirator, Mangani, Mashoor, Dark, Prince, Mister Gamp, ot. Warrigal, Star Comet and Master Im. Ooing° along the back the order was Luminary, Respirator, Mister .Gamp, ■Manoani, Dark Prince and Star Comet. Mister Gamp ran up second to Luminaly crossing the top and the pair were together turning for home attended by Star Comet, Rcspirator-and Dark Prince. Once over the last hurdle Mister Gamp ( drew away to win by a leilgth from, Luminary, who beat Star Comet by twelve lengths. Mashoor was Jouitl, followed by Dark Prince,, Respirator, St. Warrigal and Mangani. The Big Handicap. Jaloux was the.only withdrawal from the A.R.C. Handicap and Gay Ci est (£1785), Corinax (£1349) and In the Shade (£1279) were the P™Wjj fancies. When the field passed tttel stands Gay Crest and Corinax weres together in front followed by Goshawk.' My Own, Star Stranger, Concentrate., Ju the Shade, Standfast, Count Palatine, Motere, Nassoek and Spearmiss. .Along the back Standfast ami Gay Crest v,e e | together followed-by Connax, My Owi. In the Shade, Goshawk, Nassoek, Stat, Stranger, Count Palatine,. Moteie, Spearmiss and Trishna. There was** much change crossing the top wheie Goshawk appeared to get a knock. W Crest ami Standfast 'Were first to straighten up for the judge followed by, Corinax, Count Palatine and ; In the Shade. Gay Crest went on to win easily

by two lengths from Corinax, who heat My Own by two and a half lengths. Then followed Count Palatine, Goshawk, Star, Stranger, Motere, Concentrate,' Spearmiss, Standfast, In the Shade, Nassock and Trishna. The Classic. Miss Hastings Praise were not saddled up for the Great Northern Derby. Cylinder (£2084) was favourite, with Karapoti (£2369) and Gustavo (£1101) next fancied. Passing the stands Karapoti was in front, followed by Siniba, Gustavo, Chrysology, Applcclore, Cylinder, Rosshirc and Sargon. Chrysology temporarily had charge as they entered the back stretch from Karapoti, Cylinder and Gustavo, but before the six-furlong post -was reached Karapoti was again the pilot, and showed the way across' the top to Cylinder, Chrysology, Rosshirc, Gustavo, Simba, Sargon and Applcdore. The order into the straight was Karapoti, Cylinder, Chrysology, ' Gustavo and Sargon. Cylinder challenged in the run home, but had no chance of beating Karapoti, who won by two lengths and a half, with Gustavo three lengths further back. Sargon, Appledore, Chrysology, Rosshirc and Simba were next. The t ; me, 2.32 3-5, equals Desert Gold's record for the race. A Good Dividend. Twenty-one went to the post for the County Handicap, for which Perennis (£1494), Havaspot (£1424) and Pakatere (£802) -were most sought after, ■while Tetrarchate carried only £391, a'nd Loving Cup £512. Rekaraurau was left and took no part in the race. When they settled down Brilliant Lady had charge from Money Mint, Tetrarchate, Gay Idea, Carl Idem, Awamutu, and Loving Cup. Passing the four-ful-loug post Tetrarchate was in command from Awamutu, Loving Cup, Brilliant Lady, Rafflight, and Money Mint, Tetrarchate was first to turn for home from Loving Cup, Awamutu, Brilliant Lady, Rafflight and •Mauriacna, Tetrarchate and Loving Cup had a «9od battle down the straight, Tetrarchate getting the verdict by a neck from Loving Cup, who was k similar distance in front of Rafflight. Maufiaena was fourth, and then came Giiy Idea, Money Mint, Havaspot, Awamutu, Pakitere, Howiek and Perennis. The winner paid double figures. Lady Quex Easily. Leitrim was the only one that failed to parade for the Newmarket Handicap, the chief sprint event of the day. Lady Quex, after her successes in the south, was made favourite, carrying (£2140), with Bayacre ( £1810) and Great Star ( £1142) next in order of ■ selection. Lady Quex, who drew the inside position, and Chromadyne were quickest to begin, but across the top Bayacre ran up to them, and then he and Chromadyne carried on the running across the, top from Lady Quex, Great Star, Courtesy, Sir Kay and. Autopay.. Chromadyne and Bayacre were the first to the straight, being followed by Lady Quex, Great Star, and Gold Money. In the run home Lady Quex won by a neck* from Bayacre, who beat Gold Money by a length. Great Star, Courtesy, White , Wings and Sir Kay were next.

Tenakoe and Envoy got the worst of the start, and along the back Refresher had charge from Prince Val, Cynthia N., Sir Mond, and Tenakoe, who made up his ground fast. Across the top Prince Val was in front, followed by Cynthia N., Tenakoe, Refresher, Sir Mond and Maori Boy, Refresher was first into the straight from Prince Val, Cynthia N., Tenakoe, Llanore, Sir Mond and Maori Boy. In the run home Tenakoe got up to win by half a length from Refresher, who beat Sir Mond by a neck. Then followed High Pitch, Maori Boy, Cynthia 3ST. and i Llanore.
