NINE TURF MEETINGS YESTERDAY
RARAPOTI'S GREAT NORTHERN DERBY
DOMINION TOTALISATOR DECREASE, £55,000.
There were nine turf meetings in progress throughout the Dominion yesterday, eight racing and one trotting (Canterbury Park at Addington).
Besides the third day of the Ellerslie carnival, races were held at Stratford, Marton, Hastings, Tauherenikau, Greymouth, Wyndham and Waikouaiti.
Karapoti won the Great Northern Derby, while Gay Crest and LadyvQuex comprised the double (A.R.C. Handicap, and Newmarket),. The principal winners outside were High Falutin' (Stratford Cup), Otairi (Martoh Cup), Royal Parade (Wairarapa Cup) and Travis Axworthy (Canterbury Park Trotting Handicap).
The totalisator investments for the nine gatherings were £209,475, a decrease of £55,000, of which Ellerslie accounted for only £3252.
