BROADSIDING.

CRACK ENGLISH RIDERS

THIS EVENING'S PROGRAMME,

All existing track records are expected to be smashed at Western Springs Speedway to-night, when two of the most daring stars who have yet appeared in dirt track firmament will be seen in action. Jim Kempster (known as "Smiling Jim") and Frank Bond will be matched in special events against the crack Australians, Bishop and Anderson, and the Auckland stars, Mattson and Bray.

Jim Kempster, captain of the English team which beat the Australians only two months ago at Home, is said to be the world's greatest exponent of riding the white line. He clips the chalk at every bend, and never loses ground by sliding out. Kempster and Bond have just completed a most su< ceseful season at Kilbirnie Stadiun.. Wellington, where the English captaihad little trouble in beating Wally Kilmister, the Wellington hope for the Nev,Zealand championship.

The first event on the programme, iha match race between Australia and England, promises to be a thrilling contest. The brilliance of Anderson and Bishop is well known to Auckland fans and their dare-devil riding on the bends has earned them a big reputation at Western Springs. With four such stars as the Australians and Kempster and Bond, the contest should be one of the best yet seen on the speedway.

At last Alf Mattson has his Rudge running satisfactorily, and he hopes to have just as much epeed as the overseas men. To-night will be a big night for Mattson, for his performances will probably decide whether or not he will captain the New Zealand team against the Englishmen later in the season.

Besides the special match races- on the programme for this evening, there will also be a Christmas Handicap between the best eight riders on the track, a match race between the four best local men (excluding Mattson and Bray) and a New Year Handicap. After the broadsiding events a fireworks display has been arranged, so that it is promised by the management that there will be fireworks both on the track and on. the grass.
