ONEHUNGA COUNCIL.

■ Mr. E. Morton, Mayor, presided, at a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Counoil last night. Industrial Area.-Mcssrs. J. Pilkington and F. W. Mountjoy reported having met with very cordial support from the One Tree Hill Road Board, for the proposal to establish an industrial area on the Manukau foreshore. It was resolved to call a conference of representatives of Otahuhu and One Tree Hill Councils, EUershe Town Board, Mount Wellington Road Board, Onehimga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. J. W. Maweon, director of town planning, to be held at Onehunga on October 21, with a view to setting up a regional planning board. Hie Mayor and. Mr. S. Vella will represent Onehunga. Street Works.—The foreman of works submitted estimates for the. following street works :-Selwyn Street, concrete construction, £406 13/4: Queen Street, sealing and blending on the east Bide irom Nixon to Grey Streets, £242; Victoria Street, kerbing and channelling on the west side from Grey Street to Mount Smart Road, £106 5/. Drainage Contract—The new area drainage contract will be completed by October 30 one month inside contract time, lhe sum of £2000 was passed for payment to Messrs. H. Bray and Co., the contractors. ' Street Collection.—The recent street collection at Onehunga on behalf of the Maori Women's League, realised £22 S>/2. Airports—Mr. S. Vella was appointed to represent the council to'go further into the matter of promoting legislation for the establishment of an aiport at Auckland. * Donation.—The council donated £5 towards the funds of the Modernising Society. Mr. P. B. Lipscombe recorded his vote against it. Spare Water Mains.—The chairman of the water committee, Mr. W. C. Hill, moved, and it was agreed, to lift and sell about 10 chains of 8-inch water mains, as they are no longer required to convey water from Allan's Springs. Mr: Hill said the mains were worth about £138.
