GUILD RECOGNISED.

P. AND T. EXECUTIVES.

MEMBERSHIP EXCEEDS 760.

DOMINION CONFERENCE OPENED. (By Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Official recognition has been given to the Post and Telegraph Officers' Guild, an organisation formed by executive officers of the Department. The guild had its first conference this morning, when fourteen delegates, representing every district in the Dominion excepting Southland, met to consider a draft constitution drawn up by the provisional committee of Wellington officers (which now goes out of office), to make arrangements for the formal incorporation o£ the society, and consider remits received from several districts. Mr. G. McNamara, Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, whowas in attendance, welcomed the delegates to Wellington and expressed the hope that the conference would be a success. He said he saw in the guild something that would have a marked effect on the service, as it would bring into the Department the counsels of senior officers. A letter was received from the Hon. J. B. Donald, Postmaster-General, announcing that the guild was officially recognised, and intimating that he would be glad to receive the delegates and hear their views. It was stated by various speakers that tho efforts of the organisers of the guild had been fully justified. The. membership was now well over 700. A letter from the postmaster in Southland expressed regret that it was not possible to send a local delegate, and explained that it was the unanimous: wish of Southland members that the Dunedin delegates should represent them. There Mere seven memucrs in the district, but they were located in outlying parts and it was not easy to arrange for representation.
