TRANSPORT BOARD MEETS.

MT. EDEN TRAM EXTENSION.

CONSIDERATION DEFERRED

The Auckland Transport Board met this morning, Mr. J. A. C. Allum presiding. A request to lengthen the' second and third sections on the Mount Eden Road, to harmonise with similar sections on the Sandringham and Dominion Road routes was received in a letter from the Mount Eden Borough Council. The letter was received. The board decided to deal with the question as soon as the extension to Mount Albert Road is completed. The Mount Roskill Road Board wrote asking that the question of extending the tramway tracks in Dominion Road to link up with the new extension now being carried out on the Three Kings Road receive consideration. The road board considered that the extension would pay for itself from its inception, and would open up the back area of the Mount Roskill district. The letter was referred to the committee of the whole board. The board granted a donation of £10 to the. Auckland City Mission. Tenders for excavation work on the Sandringham extension were deferred in the meantime, the board deciding that nothing can be done until the legislation which is now-being.considered by Parliament is. passed, validating certain alterations proposed by the board. It was decided to write to the Central Progress League stating that it was not considered to be in the best interests of Queen Street to put in epan poles in place of centre poles, thereby doubling the number of poles. The most desirable method of making the alteration was to attach the span wire to the buildings. The removal of the centre polef would bo deferred until satisfactory, arrangements had been made in respect to span wires.
