An assurance that political colour . did not influence the appointments of Justices of the Peace was given by the • Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice, m the House to-day when replying to suggestions by Reform baclc-bencheis. ? The Minister said that justices were recommended -by the local member of Parliament, and there was no distinction as between the political parties, provided the nominee had had a reasonable education and was an honest, upright man.
