SELECT COMMITTEE'S REPORT ADOPTED BY NARROW MARGIN. (By Telegraph. —Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. By the margin of a single vote, the House of Representatives to-day adopted the. repprt of the Public Petitions A to L Committee that,, as a question of policy was involved, it had no recommendation to make on the petition, praying for the immediate, resumption of the RotoruaTaupo railway. t The .finding of the committee \vas; theiSiibject of. a deba.te lasting .for. two., hours.'"and a half,- during which representations' were, madc'jthat further inquiry should be conducted into the developmental possibilities of. the land that would be served by the railway. • , ► . • ; . ' Mr. A. W. Hall (Hauraki, Reform) said the petition was signed by some; of the leading farmers of the Waikato district, including several directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy' Co., not one of whom had any financial interest in the undertaking. The committee had been evenly divided,, and an amendment liad been moved that the petition" be referred to the Government, for consideration . with .a, recommendation thatthe Rotorua-Taupo line be included in the lines at present/being investigated by the Parliamentary Committee; but 'this had not been carried. The decision arrived at was reached on the casting vote of the chairman- Mr. Hall moved that the report be referred ,back to the committee for further consideration. How Members Voted.
