Purdy was knocked down in the first round, and needed all his defensive skill to last out the round. He was in excellent form, however, and his evasions bewildered Roberts, who was cautioned for punching to the back of the neck. In the fifth round Roberts knocked out Purdy with an illegal punch, and was promptly disqualified.
