QUEEN STREET ACCIDENTS.
While passing the intersections of Queen Street and Victoria Street recently I noticed that a man had been knocked down by a tram car, and the accident ended fatally. This' is the second time ■within a few weeks that a man has he en knocked down at this spot. One. is inclined to think that the safety zone at Self's corner is too near to that at Court's corner, being about only a chain distant and that this constitutes a trap to the unwary. May I suggest that most of the accidents occurring in this busy thoroughfare could be avoided if there were certain points where — especially at peak hours —a traffic inspector was stationed to make sure that pedestrians have a safe passage over. When it is realised that there is no traffic inspector in charge of any of that portion (the busiest) of Queen Street between Customs Street and Wellesley Street, and people are left to dodge vehicles the best way they can, one begins to marvel that there are so few accidents. \ S.
