ORANGES SELLING WELL.
BANANAS IN SHORT SUPPLY. Local supplies of bananas are short, .and will be about exhausted by the time the Tofua arrives on Monday, with a further shipment. Tlie market for apples and pears is much the same as last week. Poor man oranges, lemons and tree tomatoes are slow of sale, but oranges; both of the Island and Australian varieties, are still selling well. Prices are:—Apples: Delicious, 4/ to 8/ per case; Stunners, 6/ to 8/6; Dougherty,3/ to 8/; Grannie Smith, 8/ to 10/; Rome Beauty, 4/ to 7/; Pride of Australia, 5/ to 8/. Pears: Nelis, 9/ to 13/; P. Barry, 5/ to 7/6; Josephines, 6/ to 8/6. Tree tomatoes: 2/ to 5/6. Passions: Local, 8/ to 13/. Lemons: Choice, cured, 7/ to 10/; others, tree-ripe, 4/ to 6/. Poorman oranges: Large, 6/; small, 3/ to 4/. Oranges: Island repacks, according to count, up to 23/; Australian navels, 11/ to 13/6; Australian common, 8/ to 10/. Loquats: • Australian, 8/ to 9/6 case. Mardarins: 7/ to 11/6. Pines: 11/ to 14/. Grapes: Californian White Malagas, 7/ to 11/; Red Malagas, 12/ to 16/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 1/6 lb; seconds, 8d lb. Bananas: Choice firm No. 1, up to 19/ per bushel case; No. 2 and mediums, 10/ to 14/. pumpkins Short. A few peas and beans are appearing on the market, but these are from local hothouses. The price for peas, from 1/3 to 2/ a lb, shows' their scarcity. Pumpkins are short, and are selling well. Asparagus is more plentiful and cheaper. There is a fair market for American onions, the home-grown variety being practically finished. The market is still heavily supplied with cabbage, lettuce and celery, and there are fair quantities of new potatoes available/ It should not be long before this latter vegetable becomes really plentiful. Ruling values are:—Potatoes: Southern, 7/ to 7/6 cwt; new, 2d to 4d lb. Onions: American, 16/ to £1 bag. Kumaras, Tauranga, 8/ to 10/ cwt; cabbage, 2/ to 5/ sack; cauliflower, 4/. to 7/ sack; swedes, 2/ to 3/ bag; pumpkins, 18/ to 25/ cwt; beans, hothouse, 1/3 to 2/ lb; lettuce, 1/6 to 6/6 case; cucumbers, hothouse, 5/ to 9/ dozen; vegetable marrows, 2/ to 3/ dozen; cabbage, on benches, 1/ to 2/ dozen; cauliflower, on benches, 1/ to 4/6 dozen; celery, 9d to 3/6 bundle; rhubarb, 2/ to 6/ dozen; spinach, 1/ to 1/6 dozen; pumpkins, on benches, 1/ to 3/ each; radish, 1/ to 1/3 dozen; spring onions, 4d to 1/ bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 1/3 to 1/9 dozen; asparagus, 8d to 1/3 bundle; leeks, 3d to 6d bundle. Eggs Plentiful. Eggs are plentiful and supplies show no signs of slackening off. The demand is good, for the reason that people are using increased supplies now that eggs are cheap. Current prices for hen eggs are: Special grade, 1/3 dozen; A grade, 1/2; B grade, 1/1; C grade, lid. Duck eggs: Special grade, 1/2 dozen; A grade, 1/1; B grade, 1/; C grade, lid. Farmers' butter is fetching from lid to 1/2 a lb.. Poultry Sales. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was keen. The prices remain level. Selling rates were as follow: —Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime, 6/ to 8/ each; not prime, 4/ upwards; light breeds, prime, 4/ .to 6/6; not prime, 3/6 upwards. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 3/ to 4/; light breeds, 2/6 to 3/. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 3/ to 4/9; light breeds, 2/9 to 3/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 4/ to 6/; smaller, 2/6 upwards; light breeds, best, 4/6 to 6/; smaller, 2/' upwards. Drakes: Young, prime, 3/ to 4/6. Ducks: Young, 3/ to 4/,; old, 2/6 to 3/. Drakes: Old, 2/6 to 3/. Geese: 4/6 to 6/. Turkey hens: 5/6 to 9/. Gobblers: 8/ to 18/6. Cockerel chicks, heavy breeds, 6d to 2/; light breeds, 2d to 2/. Day-old chicks: 8.0., 6d to lOd; L., 6d to 8(1. Guinea fowls: 4/ to 5/. Ducklings: 9d to 1/.
