AGENCY BETTING.

"MEN WAITING TO STABT» LABOUR MEMBER'S WARNING. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON; Thursday. An objection raised by Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central) to totalisator betting, during the discussion on the Gaming Amendment Bill to-night, was that it forced working men to bet at least 10/, whereas under the former system of recognising bookmakers they could invest exactly what they could afford. He predicted that if the measure permitting telegraphic betting on the totalisator were passed there would be a new form of business started immediacy. 1 Mr. Parry said he knew of men who were waiting for the passage of the bill to start in business as betting agents at workshops. They would collect small bets and telegraph the money en bloc to the course. Thus the bill would encourage a worse .form of organisation than existed at present. He knew one man in Auckland ready to do this agency business, so that those who suggested that the adoption of the bill would get away from the were "talking bosh."
