SUBSIDIES REVIVED.
HELP FOR MANY SOCIETIES. MEMBERS' PLEAS SUCCESSFUL. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A number of useful voluntary organisations, which had formerly received monetary aid from the Government, found themselves victims of Budget retrenchment this year. Their friends in the House were numerous, and appeals were made to the Minister of Internal Affairs, on whose estimates the subsidies had appeared, to renew them, and Mr. H. Holland (Reform, Christchurch North) succeeded in extracting a promise from the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle that he would get Cabinet to replace on the Supplementary Estimates £400 for the benefit of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, £100 to each branch of the Society-for the Protection of Women and Children in the four main centres, £100 for the Royal Humane Society, £350 for the Royal Life Saving Society, and a £ for £ subsidy toward the cost of conducting the Girl Guides' organisation.
