CAMBRIDGE TO AUCKLAND. PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP. TO-MORROWS BIG EVENT. The 1030 Cambridge-Hamilton-Auck- \ land classic, which is again being promoted by the Auckland Cycle Club, will be held to-morrow, and everything points to a successful race. A good field of 32 riders win take part, and the public are assured of a splendid race, as all the best cash riders from the Auckland province have entered, including G. Hall (Auckland), last year's winner, F. Taylor (Auckland), second 1929, R. Yardley (New Plymouth), second 1928, and S. Gooch (Auckland), champion 1925. The first race was held in 192G, when Alex Sutherland (Auckland) took the honours off a 15m mark, also gaining fastest time C. Taylor was second. The race wa? run in blinding rain, and the roads . were_ very muddy. In 1927 another Auckland rider, in J. A. Henderson, won off 12m, and'W. Brewster (New Plymouth) scratch, was second and also secured fastest time honours, his figures being 4h 34m l-ss. W. Francis (Papakura) was third. The 1928 race was a triumph for te New Plymouth men, who filled the first three places, N. Bellringer winning off 22m, R. Yardley (18m) being second, and L. Gargan (18m) third. S. Gooch, then of Gisborne, and now of Auckland, gained time honours of 12m, his time being 4h 39m. This race was also held in atrocious weather. Last year G. Hall (Auckland 1 ), off 34m, recorded the easiest win since the inception of the race, being seven minutes ahead of F. Taylor (Auckland), 25m, at the finish. W. Francis (Papakura), 15m, was third again, and J. H. Harcourt (Hamilton), Bm, secured time honours, lowering the record to 3h 49m 57 l-ss. Fancies for to-morrow's race take a wide range, but Aucklanders with excellent prospects are S. Hayes, S. Gooch, F. Taylor, G. Hall, C. Willcox, S. Litchfield, R. Green, L. Pinfold, R. Clarke and H. Clay. The limit man will leave Cambridge at 11.12 a.m., and the scratch mail at noon. The finish this year will be at Prince Edward Park, Papakura, and the winner should reach the grounds about 3.35 p.m. Given a fine day, the riders should again make excellent time.
