ROYAL PORT NICHOLSON CLUB.

Another year of progress is recorded in the annual report of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, Wellington. An atmosphere of decided keenness has been evident, and the record entries for all races were practical evidence of a revival of interest. A very satisfactory innovation was the starting of the first and second-class events at the same time. When all the keelers were out it was a beautiful sight to • watch twelve or thirteen boats fighting for positions and crossing the starting line together. Gi'eat interest was taken in the special cup races, one of the most popular of which was the Christmas ocean race to Tory Channel for the Seabird Cup, which was won by Marangi. The annual ocean race to Port Underwood was held in February, but it was not a great success, as three of the four starters retired owing to light weather, and left the Windward to complete the course alone. The club again had the honour of having the Clyde selected to represent Wellington at the Sanders Cup contest. The Inter-Club Cup was retained by the Clyde, and the increased interest in this annual event was evidenced by the large field of fourteen yachts. Seventy new members were elected during the year, and the social activities were successful, The report refers to the good feeling existing between the local clubs, which resulted in numerous inter-club functions being held. Regret is expressed at the death of two vice-presidents, Sir Joseph Ward and Mr. David Howard, both of whom had been connected with the club for many years. The balancesheet shows that the club is in a very healthy financial position.
