THE OLDEST YACHT CLUB.

Commenting on a description of the regatta at Cowes, Isle of Wight, which appeared in a recent issue, a correspondent, "Mark Seven," takes exception to the statement that the Royal Yacht Squadron is the oldest club of its kind. He points out that the Royal Cork Yacht Club was founded in 1720 with headquarters at Queenstown, County Cork. This club flies the Red Ensign, with a gold harp on a green field in the centre of the Union Jack. The Royal Irish "Vacht Club was established in IS3I at Kingston, Dublin, and flies a blue ensign with a harp and crown in the fly. Our correspondent is quite right in claiming the Royal Cork to be the oldest yacht club. Some time ago a brief history of British yacht clubs appeared in this column and the Royal Cork was given the honour of being the first regularly established yacht club in Great Britain and Ireland.
