DIOCESAN OLD GIRLS.

A great success was achieved last evening by the Diocesan High School Old Girls' League in the presentation of "The Women Have Their Way," a two-act play, bv Serafin- and Joaquin Alvarez Quintero, at St. Mark's Hall, Remuera. There was a large audience and this delightful comedy, full of the wann sunshining atmosphere of Spain, was received most appreciatively. The play dealt with the machinations of the ladies of an outlying village to marry the pearl of the village to a young man from Madrid. That the female population outnumbered the men by five to one was quite important and showed that the herb's resistance was quite powerless. Some, delightful coplas and fandangoes running through the play were sung and danced. The music for these were arranged by Mrs. R. A. Singer, and assisting her were Mrs. E. Miller, Miss Ina Bos worth and Mies Molly Wright. During the interval a graceful and rhythmic Spanish dance by Miss Molly Woolcott added to the enjoyment. An excellent cast was selected and the setting with gay frocks and shawls made a bright scene. The part of Concha Puerto, the village gossip, was taken by Miss Althea Parker with great success. As Juanita la Rosa, Miss Joan Hudson was the demure and sweet heroine, while the roles of her girl friends Angela and Pilar, were taken by Misses Cherry Anderson and Jean MacCormick. Miss Coneie Martin did some good work as the old Santita, and Miss Phyllis Wilson acted with dignity the role of Dona Belen. As the village girl, Miss Audrey Hutchinson was a success, and Miss Barbara Pierce was also good as Diegulla. The part of the parish priest was ably taken by Mr. A. V. Penn, and' Mr. G. Brown Douglas made a debonair and very likeable hero in Adolfo Adalid. The jealous Pepe Lora was played by MrGodfrey Kissling, and Mr. H. McKail Geddes was reliable in the role of Don Cecilio, the village doctor. Guitarra, Concha's man servant, was taken by Mr. M. Milsom, Mr. Godfrey Kissling also playing the small role of Sacristan. The play was produced by Mr. J. M. Clark and Miss Xell Lush was stage manager.
