CRICKET.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. AN IMPROVED STANDARD. .. ONE CLUB TEAMS FAVOURED. The annual general meeting of-the Auckland Cricket Association was held last night, Mr. R. B. Luslc being elected to the chair in the unavoidable absence of Mr. F. Earl through ill-health. After the adoption of the balance-sheet the chairman reviewed briefly the success of last season's operations, dwelling on the fact that the standard of play had shown considerable improvement, which had been well maintained. The association had been just as unfortunate to narrowly loose the Plunket Shield last season as it had been lucky to win it the season before. Mr. Lusk said that the special thanks of the association were due the Auckland and the Takapuna Racing Clubs, which had rendered it considerable financial assistance throughout the season. It was hoped to secure the services again of last season's coach, Mr. A. P. Wensley. .- One of the vice-presidents said, in reference to a remark by Mr. Duncan, that the Domain was procurable only twice each week for cricket practice, that, since the Domain was properly a cricket ground, it ought to be used more than the two days allowed the association. The only objection, it seemed, was that it allegedly interfered with the cyclists.! A motion was unanimously carried that, the matter be inquired into in an effort to secure the use of the Domain more often. Considerable discussion arose over the advisability of not affiliating one-team clubs. 'Several members spoke'for and against the proposal, but it was finally decided that no action be taken to bar any one team from affiliating, provided that it paid an affiliation fee. The chief arguments against the barring of single teams were that such a step would rob the association of young members, who wanted to play cricket and who could not join another club owing to their living in isolated districts. It was also contended that many of the large clubs to-day had started as one-team clubs, and, in view of that, it would be unfair to bar them now. The motion, that one-team clubs be barred from participating in the association's competitions, was unanimously defeated. Mr. Lusk, however, advised the junior management committee to use its discretion in recommending such clubs to be affiliated. A proposal, that a fifth grade team for all boys 10 years and under be formed, was adopted. A vote of thanks was tendered to the Press for their long and valuable' assistance. The umpires were also thanked for their services. Trophies were presented to those teams who were successful in the season's competitions. The teams were: Parnell (won senior championship), King's College (senior B competition), Mount Albert (second grade), Victoria (third grade), Grey Lynn (fourth grade).
