STATION STREET WIDENING,
PROPOSAL TO BE UK-SUBMITTED
Ratepayers of Newmarket will have the opportunity during October of again voting on'the'Station Street loan proposal of £29,000... When .this proposal was submitted early this year the votingwas' equally divided. Last, evening the Newmarket Borough Council carried a' motion by the Mayor, Mr. S.'. Donaldson, that the necessary stops be taken to place the proposal before the ratepayers at the earliest opportunity! In making this decision the council rescinded a previous decision to submit the Station Street loan in. conjunction, -with, a proposed drainage loan. A proposal to form a fire district will b'e submitted io the ratepayers .It the same time as the £29,000 loan. , ,-On the suggestion of the.Local.Government Loans Board the council proposes. risVfirst step' to acquire property for theHvidenfng- of Station Street from 40ft to 66ft 'for a distance of about 200 ft, to ghte u fitll-width street. It is proposed to defer the work, until a favourable Opportunity. ■' '*- . • ■;-..-.-. The cbuucil decided to pave in concrete the approaches to the overhead bridge in Victoria Crescent, Newmarket. The.works committee recommended that the work should be done at the sanie time a3 the improvements at the corner of Crowlmrst Street and Gillies Avenue. The proposal was adopted. ;" . • , .
