ATTEMPTED SUICIDE CHARGE
Shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday i afternoon., as lie was about to consign i himself over Graf tori Bridge to the depths below, Patrick Mangan. an elderly man,; was caught aud hold by. a. passer-by, Mr.; J. Beanett, of So, ■ Wakefield Street, and' handed into custody of Constable MeCan'n, who happened" to be in /-he vicinity 'at the; time. ' ' ' : ' •' When Mr. 'Bennett saw Mangan, he 'had-already'climbed on to the parapet ■on: the .northern side of the. bridge at rthe. highest ■ point above the .gully. ' This morning. Mangan appeared .at the Police tourt'on a charge of attempted suicide. ; '■■ >.'<«. When; the was. iyad' to him by the Court ordcrl , accused made no reply. , ! "Mangan is quite irresponsible and I think he" should be examined," said Staff; Captain Holmes, -of the Salvation Army.; . Mr. ,;F._K, ,Hiint, 5.M.... remanded Mangan for medical observation _ and exarain'ation. He. will appear again on; October 2.
