RUGBY FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND UNION MEETS. TEAMS CONGRATULATED. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Arrangements were finalised at a meeting of the committee of the Auckland Rugby Union last evening for the local representative match between the Auckland touring and home teams, to be played at Eden Park on Saturday. The chairman, Mr. H. Frost, presided. Messrs. A. Tilly and Baker were appointed managers of the teams. Congratulations were extended to the following teams for their successes in the union's competitions—Senior grade A championship and Referee Cup, Ponsonby; Southland Shield, Manukau Rovers; third grade open championship, Newton; sixth grade championship, Suburbs. An application received from the College Rifles Club, asking permission to travel to Rotorua on Saturday, was granted. SATURDAY'S ENGAGEMENTS. The Taranak'i Rugby team to-day defeated Wairarapa by 20 points to 8. Wttirarnpa failed to score until the closing stages of the game, when Churehouse scored a try, which Fuller converted. A few minutes later JS'ikorima kicked a good penalty goal. For Taranaki tries were scored by Wotson, Walters,-Petty, Owen and Galbraith, one being converted by* Collins, who also kicked a penalty goal. The winners showed superior speed and combination. HURUWTJI-APANXJI SHIELD. The final Rugby match for the HurunuiApanui Shield will be played at Tauranga on Saturday between Apanui (challengers) and Tauranga. A match was played on Saturday on the Taupo football ground between the Tauranga ard the Taupa reps. This is one of the semi-finals for the Parata Cup competition, and rosulted in a win Vfor the local team by 12 points to 11. The match was largely "attended by visitors from the surrounding districts and the Bay of Plenty. It was a good exhibition of the code, and a fast game throughout. The deciding match for the Parata Cup will be played next Saturday in Rotorua. between teams representing Rangitp.iki and Te Toko reps, and the Taupo reps.
