SATURDAY'S CHAMPIONSHIP RACE.

On Sunday the route of the "Around the Harbour" championship race was covered by practically all of the 31 entrants. The riders are now fairly familiar with the course, but to ensure none taking the wrong turnings on the circuitous route chosen to reach the main Birkenhead-Albany road, from where the main road will be followed to the Western Springs, twelve junior members of the club will be posted on this section. The juniors nominated for such service must report at the Devonport vehicular ferry at 1.40 p.m. next Saturday, when they will be issued with return tickets so that they may get back in ample time to witness the finish of the race. Brakes are compulsory, and the officials will not allow any rider to compete who lias not such equipment on his cycle. Some very appropriate trophies have been given, and everything points to the race being a huge success and paving the way to making the event an annual one of much importance among amateur wheelmen of the city. The cycle traders and enthusiasts have given the club splendid support in respect to trophies. "Snowy" Baker, who raced with the Manukau Club early in its career and is now a shoemaker, has given a very appropriate trophy—a pair of special cycle racing shoes. Baker was third in tlie second road race to be promoted by the Manukau Club, a 20-miler, on September 26, 1925.
