NOT IMPROVABLE.

PATRIOTIC ORGANISATION.

PROPOSALS CRITICISED.

The judgment of the Auckland Provincial and War Relief Association, as expressed at a meeting of, the executive yesterday, was not altogether favourable to the finding of the recent; Ex-Soldiers' Rehabilitation Commission. The president, it was stated in a report on the matter, had written to the Minister for Pensions, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stating that while strong objection was. taken to the absorption of the patriotic funds by Government authority or control, the, association was satisfied with the present patriotic administration under the existing . War Funds Act and its amendments. ~ .

A reply was received from the Hon. Mr. Cobbo that before legislation was introduced oil the subject the representations of the association would receive the fullest consideration. Copies of the president's letter were forwarded to the larger patriotic associations of the Dominion and the consensus of opinion supported the committee in its action of carrying out the instructions of the association.

Nothing in the report of the commission appeared to call for further consideration than the committee had given to the question nor to justify the committee in recommending any change in the policy of the association. Past experience supported the views that were generally expressed, by the patriotic organisations in New Zealand, and the association considered that the present policy of the patriotic associations in the Dominion, in tlie interests of returned men and their dependents, could not be improved.
